  • Look Inside

A modified neuroleptanalgesia was employed in numerous clinical procedures such as, microsurgery of larynx, tympnoplasty, esophagoscopy, radical operations on chronic paranasal sinusitis and operations for parotid gland diseases.

The authors employed the present method of anesthesia in 43 cases of microsurgery of the larynx with favorable results. With this method the effect of the anesthesia causes very little change in the circulatory and respiratory system. The amount of arterial blood gas tested before, during and after the operation showed clinically insignificant rise or fall of PCO2 and PO2

The advantages in the use of this method of anesthesia may be listed as follows:

 1) No need of endotracheal tube that may limit the full view of the surgical field.

 2) The patient is conscious during the operation which will enable the operator to catch the movement of the vocal cord with phonation.

 3) The respiratory depression is clinically insignificant.

 4) Suppression of vomiting reflexes is remarkable.
