  • Abstract

 1. All cases of tonsillectomies, when the patient's age is less than 15 among Caucasians and less than 4 or 5 among the Japanese, are performed under the general anesthesia. Person above these ages are given local anesthesia for this operation.

 2. Sensitivity test for the agent of local anethsia is made by injecting 0.1cc initially in the anterior pillar. If no untoward reaction is seen by this procedure the area is fully anestheized.

 3. The local anesthetic is injected at 3 selected points into the soft tissues surrounding the tonsil.

 4. The initial incision is placed between the inner edge of the pillar and the tonsil and the separation of the tonsillar tissue is carried out with a great care.
