  • Look Inside

Two cases of parapharyngeal neurinoma were reported. The patients had hardly any complaints except for the sense of swelling in the throat and a lump in the upper neck.

The first case was a 25 year old female. The extirpated tumor weighed 40 gm and measured 6.5 by 5 by 4 cm. A Horner's syndrome occur-red postoperatively.

The second case was a 35 year old female. The tumor was dumbbell shaped in its contour which measured 4 by 3 by 3 cm at one end and 2.5 by 2.5 by 2.5 cm at the other. The larger part was found to be solid whereas the smaller part to be cystic; it weighed 27 gm.

Histologically the first case proved to be neurinoma of Antoni type A, while the second to be Antoni type A and B.

A postoperative complication of hypoglossal nerve paralysis was noted in the second case for the period of 3 months.
