  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In 10 cases of malleostapediopexy, which were performed by the authors, good results were seen in 8 cases, 80% successful. Where type Ⅲ tympanoplasty was perfomed the mal leus was employed to compensate the shortness of the height of stapes. In this procedure the anterior ligament was used as the fulcrum upon which the malleas was turned over on to the stapes and the two were stabilized by means silk ligature passed through between the crura of the stapes. The advantage gained by this method was as follows :

1) Debridement of the epitympanum was highly facilitated.

2) The final outcome of this method rese-mbled closely of that attained by type I tympanoplasty.

3) It afforded a good connection between the mastoid area and the auditory tube.

The posterior wall of the external aural meatus was preserved in the operative proce-dure.
