　Ⅰ．緒言

　滲出性中耳炎は中耳腔に分泌液が持続的に貯溜するのを特徴とする疾患である。この疾患はわれわれが日常臨床において多く遭遇するにかかわらず，いろいろの治療法が奏効せず，しばしば反復する分泌液の処置に難渋するものである。

　今般，われわれは本疾患に対し経鼓膜的に中耳腔内にポリエチレン管を挿入して，その治療過程を短縮し，著効をみた症例を経験したのでここにその概要を報告する。なお少数例の観察であるので結論を下すのには尚早と思われるが，御追試の上，御批判を仰ぐ次第である。

Cases of secretory otitis media were satis-factorily cured by means of polyethylene tube inserted into the middle ear cavity through the tympanic membrane. The use of the tube in this way serves a two-way purpose. It accelerates the drainage from the middle ear cavity assuming the functional activity of the temporarily defunct auditory tube; and, aids the proper healing of the diseased audi-tory tube.
