A diagnosis of congenital deafness is made on a male infant aged 19 months; the methods of examination included electroencephalographic audiometry, COR (conditioned orientation reflex) audiometry, startle response audiometry and CPR (cochleo-pupillary-response) audiometry. The first indication of the deafness was suspected by the parents when the infant failed to be startled by a sudden loud noise, after reaching the age of 6 months.

The prenatal history of the infant revealed that the mother, at the third month of her present pregnancy, was affected with rudella. And, it was seriously considered at the time whether it would not be more advisable to terminate that pregnancy. The preganacy was carried in accordance to a strong positive counsel of a physician. The infant at birth weighed 2350 g.
