With a suspicion that occupational deafness that occur in the coal miners may similarly exist among workers of metal mines 890 in-dividuals of the latter were examined withhearing test.

The number of occupational deafness was 57cases in all and among them only six cases were valued to be eligible for workman's compensation ; the number thus affected was quite low.

There were a few cases of nerve deafness-due to general physical conditions as well as allergic diathesis who showed a medium toneloss but the degree of this loss was rather slight.

Occupational noise in these miners appeared to influence them very slightly even among those who showed otitis media in their history but in the ones employed for rock-blasting the relation of history of otitis and the eighth nerve affection appeared to be highly vivid for the worse.
