緒言
耳鼻咽喉科領域に於ては,耳内異物はしばしば遭遇する処であり,内外成書にも古くより詳述せられて居る。然るに私共は最近,竹片が外耳道に突き刺さり,その一部が鼓室内に残留,為に急性乳様蜂窠炎を起した一例を経験することを得たので,その大要を報告し度い。
A man aged 27 recieved a piercining injury of the left auditory canal with splintering bamboo. He complained of pain and discharge to which conservative treatments had been directed for the period of 4 weeks without avail. With a final diagnosis of mastoiditis the patient was operated upon with an intension of carrying out a simple mastoidectomy. How-ever, it was found that the middle ear cavity to be filled with pus and granulation tissues: the course of operation was required to be changed from the simple to radical: 3 small pieces of bamboo splinters were removed from the middle ear cavity. This experience has conveyed us a lesson that, in cases of foreign body injury, to what extent the importance of the care in removing the offending foreign body would be: there is a slight difference in symptoms and signs manifested by ordinary otitis media and mastoiditis and that provoked by irritative foreign bodies.
