Tanaka and Haraguchi advocate the use of cortisone in after-treatment of chronic sinusitis following radical operation on the paranasal sinuses. The use of cortisone. was tried because of its property restraining the growth of exuberant granulations which is the stumbling block that prevent acquiring of proper oporative results. Its use, moreover, is devoid of any side-reactions or delayed bleeding the result of delayed woundhealing: the desired result being the better the earlier it is instituted in use. The healing facility established in the Sinus Caui ties is demon strated by X-ray examinations with instillation of molyiodol as contrast medium. However,a case was met with, with continued use of cortisone in this way, on 4th to 5th week of convalescence a sudden turn of conditions to aggravated symptoms caused by abrupt change by granulation growths. Believing this worsening change the outcome of lowering in the functional activity of the adrenal glands insulin, which is known to have property counter-acting that lowering, was added to the therapy: desirable healing of the operative wound was thereby, accomplished wihout further complications.

In a period of 1 year 9 cases of chronic sinusitis have been treated by this method in conjunction to radicsl operations but, with failure. Eight cases, therefore, made proper recovery with complete abatement of former symptoms and, among them were established wide drainage opening of sinus cavity which was instituted at the time of the operation.
