Aoki reports an interesting case of foreign body of the external ear canal that baffled several specialists during the period of one year by believing the condition to be chronic purulent otitis media on their part. The his-tory of the case revealed that, a girl aged 3, a slender bamboo stick had accidently pierced the throat at the soft palate anterior to the right tonsils. The stick was removed but evidently a small piece was broken off at its end which remained in the external ear canal of the right ear. The ear trouble began 10 days after this incident. The author stresses the necessity of taking a careful history in cases that involve incidents of foreign bodies.
