NAKAMURA and OKA report a case of congenital syphilis that causeda cleft palate by a large perforation. The patient, a girl 8 years of age, who had been always healthy, was brought to consultation because of a membra-nous lesion found on the uvula, Examination showed, besides the latter lesion, a small per-foration on the soft palate. Laboratory exami-nations in bacterial culture from the lesion, leucocyte count and tuberculin test poved to be nagative, excepting, tee test for syphilis which was str ngly positive, not only, for the patient but also for both parents. Antisyphi-llitic measure was instituted but with n) effect on the progress of the lesion; the membrane which was formed on the uvula now caused it to be divided with a fissure which joined with the perforation in the center of the soft pala e and finally created a large triangular opening. At tahe end of 3 years at present writi g, this opening may have decreased in size but not to an appreciable extent; the blood pictare is strongly positive for syphilis.
