HOSUI says that use of nylon for suture material is by far the more advantageous than that of silk. In comparison of the two the former under a given strain is stronger, with-stands the better sterilization by boiling, stea-ming or by other chemicals and, is less irritating to surrounding tissues which otherwise may be aroused to excessive formation of granulation or stitch abcesses. By reason of which nylon suture is especially adaptable for use on the face; a thin suture is adequate in serving its purpose leaving almost no aftermarks. Again with its inherent resiliency this type of suture may well displace the use of horse-hair or silver wires, as the case may be, in places where immobilization is required where it is ordinarily mobile.
