NIHO and his associates report that, when mastoidectomy in combination with petrousotomy were performed on a patient, a boy aged 8, who showed symptoms of acute nephritis which was manifested concommitantly with acute exacerbation of chronic otitis media, nephritis is brought to a complete cure in surprisingly short period of time. since nephritis of aural origin is not marked with criteria which may be readily differentiated from acute omerular nephritis based upon some other causes the diagnosis of this condition is often derived at after successful treatment of existing ear disease has been consumated. The authors stress the need of surgical intervention, mastoidectomy supplemented with petrousotomy, in ear diseases when they are suspected in any way a contributing factor to the nephritis.
