YOSHIKAWA states his experience in observing a case with whom both ears, one after the other and within a short space of time, became involved so as to require simple mastoidectomy for preser-vation of hearing, As preoperative treatments one ear was treated with penicillin injections and the other, without. Judging from the facts gathered from two mastoidectomies when penicillin is empl-oyed, the author says, loss of hearing is the impo-rtant criteria whereby the true condition may be detected, as other symptoms may be effaced from the picture to simulate a cure.
