Fukuda reports a case of a patient, a man aged 43, with complaints of pain and swelling in right submandibular region and of pus discharge from sublingual salivary duct of the same side. An operation performed through oral approach re-veals a salivary stone which was well embedded in the substance of subligual gland. Analysis of the stone after removal showed its composition as of calcium phosphate and the size of which measured 1.7 cm ×1.3 cm × 1.2 cm with the we-ight of 2.32 gm.

The author states that while records of salia-vry stones listed in the literature are by no means a rare occurrence but those that are dis-covered in the substance of the gland are only a few in number. The present case is the third in the series thus far recorded and apparently the largest in size among the three. In its for-mation, it is believed to be inflammatory in origin.
