I．はじめに

　手根管症候群は，上肢におけるentrapment neuropa—thyのうちで最も頻度の高いものである．その発症原因の一つとして，1975年Warren^17）らにより長期透析患者に本症候群が高頻度に発症することが報告されて以来，人工透析に関与する医師達を中心にその病態の解明，治療方法，予後等につき研究がすすめられてきた．しかしながらこの興味ある病態についての脳神経外科医の関心は薄く，いまだ十分に知れわたっていないものと考えられる。

　昨今，本邦の脳神経外科医の治療対象は脊髄，末梢神経領域へも拡大の一途をたどっており，この長期透析患者に好発する手根管症候群は脳神経外科医としてぜひとも知っておくべき病態と考えられたので，われわれの経験した1例を報告し，文献的考察を加えた．

Since Warren and Otieno reported carpal tunnel syn-drome in patients on intermittent hemodialysis in 1975, a number of related reports have been published. However, there are few reports associated with neuro-surgery about carpal tunnel syndrome in patients on long term hemodialysis. We reviewed this disease and reported our case.

We treated a patient who complained of bilateral hand numbness and atrophy of the right thenar muscle. He had been suffering from chronic renal failure and had been treated with hemodialysis for ten years.
