  • Look Inside

Neoplasms of the nervous system tumors have been induced by administration of ethylnitrosourea and methylnitrosourea to Sprague-Dawley rats. Repeated intravenous administration of MNU (5mg/kg/week to a total dose of 180mg/kg) resulted in the production of 54 neoplasms in 18 rats. The survival time ranged from 235 to 374 days following the initial injection of the compound. All but two of the tumors occurred in the nervous system, with the majority arising in the neuropil adjacent to the lateral ventricles or in the subcortical white matter.
