  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Only less than 30% of the cases of hemiballism get excellent results by thalamotomy reported by Mundinger et al. in spite of making combined lesion in the ventrolateral thalamic nucleus and the suthalamic area. According to our experimental results, it is concluded that the lateral part of pallidum has an important role to control of activities of the subthalamic nucleus, of which disfunction produced hemiballistic movement. The lateral part of pallidum, therefore, is selected the target to relief of hemiballism.
