  • Look Inside

Retinoic acid, an active metabolite of retinol (vitamin A), has been recently identified as a natural morphogen in the pattern formation of chick limb buds. In an in vitro culture, retinoic acid can induce the differentiation of teratocarcinoma cells into various cell types. These suggests that retinoic acid is involved in the morphogenesis other than limb formation in the embryogenesis. To investigate this possibility that retinoic acid is involved in the morphogenesis other than limb formation, the expression of cellular retinoic acid binding protein (CRABP) in the mouse embryo was examined by immunohistochemistry.
