Neuronal connections of the hypothalamus, and main circuits for feeding and agonistic behavior were discussed. In general, the hypothalamus has an important integrative role for ingestive, ago-nistic and other motivated behaviors. Numerous ascending and descending inputs and multiplex neuronal circuits among the hypothalamus serve to accomplish the integration. The output from the hypothalamus mainly go down to the mid-brain via medial forebrain bundle, dorsal longitu-dinal fascicle, and dorsal diencephalic conduction system (stria medullaris-habenula-retroflexal fas-cicle), and drive preset motor programs to elicit motivated behaviors i.e. feeding and agonistic behavior. The limbic forebrain structures have modulatory influences on these systems.
