Peripheral neuropathy due to thiamine deficiency and alcohol

I．はじめに

　Deficiency neuropathyは栄養の豊富な現代では消失したかに見られる。しかし，一見豊富に見える中にひそむ栄養の偏りによるビタミン欠乏，あるいはアルコール多飲などによる食事内容の偏りは現在もかなり広く存在する^1）。今回はビタミン欠乏とくにビタミンB₁欠乏によるpolyneuropathyについて検討した。

Abstract

　Even among the well nourished people in Japan, there is still thiamine deficiency neuropathy; beriberi neuropathy, caused by the consumption of polished rice and/or processed foods. In addition, alcoholic polyneuropathy has recently shown an increase in numbers. In this report, 79 patients suffering from alcoholic polyneuropathy, 94 drinkers without neuropathic symptoms and 28 beriberi patients were studied clinically, electrophysiologically and morphologically. There were some differences in clinical features between beriberi neuropathy and alcoholic neuropathy.
