Abstract

In the frontal eye field, visual neurons located in its lateral areas had receptive fields representing the foveal and parafoveal regions of the contra-lateral visual hemifield. On the other hand, medially located neurons represented eccentric or peripheral parts of the visual field. In the former areas, we found the neurons which maintained tonic activation during the foveal fixation to a target, while in the latter areas, there were neurons which showed an enhancement of their visual response when the animal made a saccadic eye movement to a target appearing in their receptive field.
