  • Look Inside

Norepinephrine (NE) neurons in the mammalian brain consist of two systems; locus coeruleus system and lateral tegmental system. The former one originates from the locus coeruleus and the lateral tegmental system originates from the dorsal motor vagus, nucleus tractus solitarius, adjacent tegmentum and lateral tegmentum. The locus coeruleus system terminates mainly in cerebellum, thalamus, basal telencephalon and the entire isocortex, a part of which terminates at spinal cord, brain stem (trigeminal nucleus) and hypothalamus. The lateral tegmental system terminates mainly in the hypothalamus and the brain stem.
