はじめに

　Parkinson病に対する弛まぬ戦いは，神経化学の分野における著しい進歩に伴ない近年着々と勝利をおさめつつある。これらの成果は他の錐体外路系疾患（Huntington病など）の病態の究明と治療法の開発に大きな刺激となり，この10年間にこれらの領域の研究に画期的な進展が見られてきた。

　本稿ではchoreaやdyskinesiaをきたす疾患に焦点をあて，それらの治療研究の概略を紹介することにする。

　Current therapeutic approaches for Huntington's disease, other choreatic syndromes and tardive dyskinesia are reviewed.

　While the neurophysiology of chorea is not still understood, accumulating clinical observations and biochemical findings have provided some important clues to the pathogenesis.

　Recent particular interest in Huntington's disease has been forcussed on neurochemical findings, for example depletions of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamic acid decarboxylase and choline acetyltransferase in the basal ganglia.
