This report is the results of an investigation ofserum lipoprotein, and protein in serum and cerebrospinal fluid on multiple sclerosis, retrobulbar neuritis, and experimental allergic encephalomyelitis.

The ratio of β-lipoprotein to α-lipoprotein showed a significant increaes during the period ofexacerbation in multiple sclerosis, retrobulbarneuritis and experimental allergic encephalomyelitis.

Concerning the protein patterns of the cerebrospinal fluid in multiple sclerosis, two typesof change were observed; one was the increaseboth in β-and γ-globulin fractions and the otherwas the increase only in β-globulin fraction. All patients with retrobulbar neuritis showedthe increase of β-globulin fraction in the cerebrospinal fluid in both stages, remaining γ-globulin fraction normal.

In the acute stage of experimental allergicencephalomyelitis, β-globulin in cerebrospinalfluid increased but γ-globulin was normal. Inthe period of remission, increase of both β-and γ-globulin was observed.
