　21世紀に入った現在でもMRI技術の進歩は衰えを見せず，構造解析から機能解析までを一つの装置でこなす究極の画像法に向かってまっしぐらに進んでいる。構造画像の精度は肉眼病理所見を超え，機能画像は電気生理学に匹敵する空間解像度を誇るまでになった。聴覚神経学の分野における貢献度も著しく，内耳の微細構造解析から高次機能の局在解析まで，幅広い情報の提供が可能となっている。

Recent advancements in magnetic resonance technology have revolutionized not only structural but also functional imaging. It is now possible to perform detailed analysis of all aspects of brain function non-invasively. Auditory system is not an exception. Advanced technology offers variety of clinically relevant information from the labyrinth to the cortex. Structural analysis surpassed the level of microscopic pathology. Functional analysis provides not only gray but also white matter functionality. The former represented by functional mapping and neuron density measurement, while the latter by tract imaging and tracing.
