神経系の発生過程におけるプログラム細胞死

Programmed cell death in the developing nervous system

はじめに

　個体発生の過程ではいろいろな種類の細胞が分裂して増殖，分化，移動して個体を作り上げていく一方で多くの細胞が死んでいく。発生過程の神経系においても，発生のさまざまな時期に神経細胞やまだ未分化の神経上皮細胞が細胞死を起こしていることが知られている。この中でもっとも知られている細胞死の一つは，脊髄運動神経細胞や脊髄神経節細胞に起こるいわゆるnaturally occurring neuronal deathである。この細胞死は神経細胞が分化を終え標的とシナプスを形成した後の比較的遅い時期に起こる細胞死である。この神経細胞死は長い研究の歴史をもち，現在，その調整機序として栄養因子へのアクセス仮説が導き出されている。一方，発生のもっと早い時期の中枢神経系における細胞死は，記載はされてきたものの，その調節機序などの研究はほとんどなされてこなかった。本稿では，ニワトリ胚の脊髄において発生過程のさまざまな時期に起こる細胞死を中心に最近の知見を解説し，発生過程に起こる神経細胞死の調節機序や意義について考察していきたい。

Programmed cell death occurs in the developing nervous system at various developmental stages. The present paper reviewed three types of programmed cell death in the chick embryo spinal cord : (1)naturally occurring motoneuron (MN) death in the lateral motor column, (2)cell death in the earlieststages, and (3)early MN death in the cervical spinal cord. Although mode of cell death is the same (apoptotic), regulation of cell death and biological significance of these three kinds of programmed cell death are different.
