発生過程での神経細胞死

Neuronal death during ontogeny.

I．はじめに

　個体発生の過程で大規模な細胞死が神経組織に起こることは，いわゆるnaturally occurring neuronal deathとして最近では広く認められるようになってきた。時としてdevelopmental，programmed，physiological，またはhistogenetic cell（neuronal）deathといったいろいろな呼び方をされる。この稿では自然発生的神経細胞死と呼ぶことにするが，以後自然細胞死と略す。これまでのところ神経系のいろいろな部位，多くの動物種で，自然細胞死が報告されている（表）。その中でニワトリ（後注1）脊髄運動ニューロンについては，これまでに最も詳細に自然細胞死の研究が行なわれてきたので，この投射系の自然細胞死を中心にして解説を加える。

　Massive neuronal death has been recognized in the different regions of the central and peripheral nervous system of many animal species as a normal process of neurogenesis. In the present review we focus on naturally occurring neuronal death mainly in the spinal motor nucleus of chick embryos.

　The first scientific evidences have been demonstrated by Dr. Hamburger in 1975 on naturally occurring neuronal death in the lateral motor column of lumbar enlargement of the chick spinal cord: 40% of cell loss occurs between embryonic day (E) 6 and E12.
