  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Many authors described various forms of category specific cognitive impairment, and some of them are assumed to have underlying dysfunctions in semantic memory system and higher visual cognition. Several aphasic and agnosic patients showed category specific impairment of living things, which is discussed to stem from the disruption of sensory/visual features in semantic system. In monkey temporal lobe, neurophysiological studies confirmed the neurons responding to the specific visual features of objects.
