  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The physiological and morphological properties of upper airway receptors and their relating reflexes were described. The nose and larynx have different types of receptors which respond to changes in flow (temperature), pressure and respiratory 'drive', and to noxious chemical stimuli. They involve the same nerve endings as 'mucosal', 'muscular' and 'articular' receptors in another categorization.

The 'flow' receptor has been found in the ethmoidal nerve on the nose and superior laryngeal nerve on the larynx.
