The term dystonia is defined as a type of motor disoder characterized by slow, writhning, involuntary movement of extremities, neck or trunk (dystonic movement) and fixed abnormal posture (dystonic posture) due to abnormal involuntary contraction of skeletal muscles resulting from diseases of the basal ganglia. On the otherhand, the disease “ dystonia musculorum deformans” (Oppenheim, 1911) or idiopathic torsion dystonia is characterized by variable motor disorders different from symptomatic dystonia caused by lesions involving the putamen.
