  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The term “akinesia”, a commonly used term in describing the clinical pictures of Parkinson's disease (PD), is a vague and not well defined term. The author intends to analyze and classify “akinesia” into three subtypes from analysis of clinical features, effects of several different pharmacological agents and of long-term effects of microelectrode stereotaxic thalamotomy.

Type I akinesia is a slowness and unskillfulness of delicate voluntary movements, which is attributed to and interpreted as secondary to existence of rigidity of muscles.
