  • Look Inside

Hypertension is frequently found in patients with sleep apnea syndrome (SAS), but the mechanism inducing hypertension in such patients is not yet known. In 15 SAS patients and in 6 controls, plasma levels of various pressor substances (noradrenaline, adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin, renin, aldosterone, and cortisol) were measured right after awakening in the morning and the 24 hour urinary output of noradrenaline (NA) was also measured. All subjects were admitted to the hospital, and were not allowed to take or consume any drugs, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine or vanilla 4 to 7 days prior to the measure-ment of the pressor substances.
