　尿道狭窄の治療後外来で定期的に行う尿道ブジーを，患者が自宅でカテーテルを尿道に挿入する間歇的自己尿道拡張法で代用できるか否かを有用性と安全性において検討した。内尿道切開術後等，外来で金属ブジーによる拡張を必要とした16例，経尿道的手術後の外尿道口狭窄4例および女性の尿道狭窄2例を対象としたが，平均15.6か月の観察期間において尿路感染症などの合併症もなく経過良好であった。本法は従来の方法に比し①来院の必要がない，②疼痛も軽度であるなどの利点があることから，最近の医療の傾向に合った身体的，精神的，社会的および経済的に侵襲の少ないよい治療法と考えられる。

The usefulness and safety of intermittent self-dilatation performed by patients at their home for urethral stricture using 16-22Fr balloon catheter, in place of conventional dilatation by metal sound at out-patient clinic, was studied in 22 patients. They are 16 male patients with urethral stricture who required periodical urethral dilatation, 4 male patients with meatal stricture caused by transurethral surgery and 2 female patients with urethral stricture. All patients became free from metal sound at out-patient-clinic with satisfactory urine flow in mean follow-up period of 15.6 months.
