　思春期の精索静脈瘤47症例について，手術群25例と非手術群22例の2群に分類し，術前，術後の患側と反対側にみとめられる睾丸萎縮の有無および血中ホルモン値について平均23ヵ月間にわたり経過観察し，また性成熟が完了した合計27例に対しては精液検査を行い両群を比較検討した。睾丸萎縮に関して，手術群では術前に22睾丸にみとめたが，術後はこれが9睾丸に減少した。一方，非手術群では初診時13睾丸に萎縮をみとめたが，経過観察終了時点では24睾丸に増加した。精液所見はいずれの検討項目についても手術群が非手術群を統計的な有意差をもって上回った．

Comparative follow-up study was performed in 47 pubertal patients with varicocele to evaluate the efficacy of surgical repair of varicocele at pubertal age on the improvement of testicular functions. Of the 47 patients, 25 were corrected by surgical treatment and 22 were uncorrected. Changes of testicular atrophy were examined at the time of first visit and after follow-up. In the corrected group, 22 testes showed atrophy before surgical treatment, whereas only 9 showed the atrophy after follow up. In the uncorrected group, however, testicular atrophy was noted in 13 at the first visit but increased to 24 after follow up.
