THE ASK-UPMARK KIDNEY: A CASE REPORT

緒言

　Ask-Upmark腎は，1929年Ask-Upmarkが剖検腎6例に先天性発育不全による特徴ある形態的異常を認め，うち5例に悪性腎硬化症を合併していたことを報告したことにはじまる。最近われわれは4歳男児の感染を伴う発育不全腎を摘除し，摘出腎がAsk-Upmark腎に相当する所見が得られたので報告する。

A 4-year-old boy was referred to our clinic with a 3-year history of recurrent urinary tract infections. Each of these infections had been treated with antibiotics with resolution of symptoms. Studies of intra-venous pyelograms and retrograde pyelograms revealed a hypofunctioning small right kidney bearing a dilatated ureter. No particular findings were pointed out in the left kidney. On the basis of the decreased number and clubbing of the calyces and the decreased size of the kidney, a radiological diagnosis of hypoplastic kidney associated with chronic pyelonephritis was made.
