  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Diagnostic value of urinary cytology in renal cell carcinoma was studied and the cause of low incidence of positive cytology and prognosis of its group were discussed.

1) Eighteen of 95 patients (19%) with renal cell carcinoma had positive cytology.

2) Of the 37 patients whose urine samples had been teken 4 times or more, 12 (32%) had positive cytology. It is necessary to take at least 4 urine samples for the cytological diagnosis.

3) In 40 of 90 cases (44%), the carcinoma was infiltrated to the renal pelvis.

4) Grade of histological malignancy in cytologically positive group was higher than in negative group.
