Urine culture and urinalyis were performed in 43 patients with chronic renal failure. The pre-valence of bacteriuria (>105/ml) was 14% (male 9%, femal 22%); 10% in chronic glomerulonephritis, 71% in pyelonephritis and obstructive uropathy, 15% in patients with undergoing maintenance hemo-dialysis, 0% in nondialysed patients. Abacteiuria was 44% in 93 specimens.
In azothemic patients due to chronic glomerulonephritis, ordinary urinary tract pathogens such as E. coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, were not increased significantly.
