  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Cases of chickenpox and herpes zoster show significant increases in complement-fixing antibodies in the sera. L.L. Leonard et al. stated that the antibodies belonged to IgM and IgG fractions in chickenpox, while those of herpes zoster belonged to IgG.

The authors examined serum levels of IgG, M, and A in these two diseases by the immunoplate technique to determine the role of serum antibodies in the starting of these diseases.

IgG level became higher in almost all cases inteh recovery stages of two diseases.

IgM level was high in the acute and low in the recovery stages of chickenpox, while it was low in the acute and high toward the recovery stages of herpes zoster.

These findings were compatible with Leonard's observations.
