Many studies on dermatitis due to adhesive plaster have been performed by various authors, revealed allergic and irritating reactions, especially influence of sweating. The author reported dermatitis due to mechanical injuries by adhesive plaster.

On the flexor aspect of the upper arm of 30 volunteers 2 lines of plastic adhesive plasters (Nichiban Co., Japan) were applied in parallel. Those in one line were applied with strong tension, while those in the other were applied without any abnormal force. The plasters were removed after 24 hours, and the local reactions were observed.

The areas applied with tension showed erythema in 24, itching and blister in 4 and 2 cases respectively. On the contrary, in all areas applied without tension were proved to be intact.

This kind of reaction belongs to a kind of traumatic dermatitis.
