  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Two patients of polyvinyl pyrrolidon (PVP) deposition in the skin to whom large doses of PVP were administered were reported. Both cases complained of severe itching,. The first case given middle-sized molecule of PVP did not improve the symptoms one year after discontinuance of the injection. The second case which received small-sized molecule of PVP improved the symptoms 6 weeks after interruption of the injection and the histologic speci-men proved decreased deposit of the substance.

Histrogic specimen of the skin showed deposit of a granular substance with positive Congo red stain in the dermis, especially around the blood vessels. In the second case the substance deposited in the epidermis as well as in the dermis.

Hematoxylin and Eosin specimen of the lymph node revealed the existence of foam cells and giant cells which stained positively with Congo red. The granular substance of Congo red positive stain deposited extracellularly in the lymph node.

Serum Lugol reaction in the first case was always positive.
