  • Look Inside

The non-recurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) was detected prior to thyroid operation. The NRLN is an anomaly which is known to be associated withthe aberrant right subclavian artery. Therefore, if this artery can be pointed out prior to thyroid opration, injury of NRLN can be avoided.

In this case, cervical CT showed a vascular image which ran behind the esophagus. Therefore, we could point out the aberrant right subclavian artery.

It was thought that cervical CT with the levels lower to the inferior extremity of the sterno-clavicular joint was useful to detect NRLN prior to thyroid operation.
