  • Look Inside

The temporal bone pathology of a 74-year-old female affected with acoustic neurinoma was stud-ied together with the findings of ABR and electro-cochleography. At the age of 71, she complainedof a hearing loss in the left ear. Audiometry revealed a high-frequency hearing loss. In ABR, no wave form was reproducible. But in electrocochleo-graphy, clear compound action potentials were detected. The temporal bone pathology revealed a large schwannoma occupying the internal auditory meatus. The organ of Corti was degenerated in the basal turn. The spiral ganglion cells and cochlear nerve fibers were severely decreased. There was fine granular precipitate in the perilymphatic space.
