  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Sialolithiasis is most common in adults, but rare in children. We have recently experienced 3 cases of submandibular sialolithiasis in children under 10 years old. Calculi were found in Wharton's duct and removed under local anes-thesia.

Reasons why sialolithiasis is rare in children may be considered as follows: salivary flow in children is faster than adults, the concentration of Ca in saliva is lower in children than in adults, inhibitors of crystal formation in saliva are low in adults.
