Intratracheal intubation, gastric acid reflux, coughing, and vocal abuse are considered to be the common causes of vocal process granulomas(VPG). To clarify the effect of the treatment, we analyzed the outcome of VPG that had been treated conservatively. Thirty-eight patients treated at Kobe University Hospital between 2008 and 2013 were enrolled. We used the endoscopic grading system for vocal process granulomas to evaluate the therapeutic effects.

Unexpectedly high endoscopic grade lesions tended to resolve at a higher rate than low grade lesions. The overall resolution rate was 67%(25/38), and the symptom free rate was 92%(31/34).
