  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A total of 42 patients with persistent paroxymal cough was examined. Signs of infection had never been presented. They often complained of throat and retrosternal itching. Since none of them had symptoms of stridor and dyspnea, the diagnostic possibility of asthma was excluded.

Intradermal test or RAST revealed that 73. 8 % of them were sensitive to inhalant allergens. Twenty-two of 27 (81.5%) from whom specimens had been collected exhibited eosinophiles in sputum or laryngeal secretion. Approximately half of the patients had concomitant symptoms of nasal allergy. Therefore allergic etiology on the larynx, trachea and main bronchi could be considered.
