There is no report concerned about necessity of pressure dressing above wound postoperatively in thyroid tumor. We investigated 52 patients operated for thyroid tumor retrospectively whether pressure dressing over the wound of neck is necessary postoperatively. We applied pressure dressing above the wound in 26 patients postoperatively, and no pressure above the wound in 26 patients postoperatively. All patients were inserted J-VAC drainage after surgery. There was no significant difference in drainage amount and time among the group applied pressure above the wound and the group without pressure above the wound. Additionally, all patients had pressure above wound undertook skin erosion by tapes and have been cured about 10 days, whereas skin of all patients had no pressure above wound was clear. Furthermore, there was significantly higher feeling of the decompression of neck in the group with pressure dressing on the wound than in group without.

Therefore,it is not necessary for pressing above wound after thyroid surgery.
