  • Look Inside

We examined the anterior segment of 62 eyes with Behçet disease using a high-frequency ultrasound biomicroscope, UBM. Immediately after ocular attacks, UBM showed punctate reflexes in the anterior chamber, posterior chamber and anterior vitreous. The findings were suggestive of presence of inflammatory cells. The punctate reflexes in the anterior vitreous were still present in 53% of eyes four weeks after ocular attacks. Eyes with punctate reflexes in the vitreous showed poorer visual acuity, more intense aqueous flare and higher fundus scores. Eyes in the terminal stage of the disease showed irregular structure of intraocular tissues, thickened ciliary body, clusters of reflexes suggesting granulation in the anterior vitreous, ciliary detachment, or intraocular proliferation.
