  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We quantitated the corneal and aqueous concen-trations of fluorescein in 6 male volunteers who were asked to wear, for 2 minutes each, high- and low-water content soft contact lens and collagen shield, all of which were presoaked in 0.5% fluores-cein for 60 minutes. They also received fluorescein as eyedrops. The aqueous concentration after 3 hours was highest after wearing high-water con-tent soft contact lens to decrease in the above order. The differences were significant except between low-water soft contact lens and collagen shield. Findings were essentially the same for the corneal concentration. We conclude that soft con-tact lens with high water content is most useful as delivery system of fluorescein with short-time wear.
