We treated 40 eyes, 40 cases, with subfoveal neovascularization in senile disciform macular degeneration. We applied dye laser, 580, 590, 610 or 630nm, to the extrafoveal portion of the sub-macular membrane. The follow-up period was 3 months and longer, average 15 months. After laser treatment, the visual acuity improved by 2 lines or more in eyes belonging to serous retinal detach-ment type, particularly when treated with wave-length of 610 nm. Visual acuity remained stable or deteriorated by 2 lines or more in eyes manifesting serous or hemorrhagic detachment of retinal pig-ment epithelium and in eyes with macular fibrosis. Laser treatment prevented further enlargement of the macular lesion in 80% of treated eyes.
